About the film

A documentary about humanity, faith and those searching for a second chance.

A documentary about humanity, faith and those searching for a second chance.

The Street Pastor is a feature-length documentary that follows two years in the life of Béla Turbucz, a Reformed pastor and social worker in Székesfehérvár, Hungary.

While he preaches the Gospel from the pulpit on weekends, during the week he works alongside people experiencing homelessness. Every day he meets individuals whose lives have been shaped by homelessness, addiction, and the loss of hope. Yet his work goes far beyond providing food or clothing. It is about building trust, listening without judgment, and searching for the possibility of a new beginning.

The film offers an intimate and compassionate portrait of life on the streets while providing a rare glimpse into a form of service that often goes unnoticed. Rather than offering simple answers, it raises questions that concern us all: What does it truly mean to help another person? How far does our responsibility for one another extend? And is there really a way back from life on the streets?

The Street Pastor is a story about human dignity, the power of faith, and hope, told through the lives of people we pass by every day, yet rarely take the time to truly see.

About the director

Ákos Wéninger

Ákos Wéninger

The Street Pastor is the feature-length documentary debut of Hungarian filmmaker Ákos Wéninger. Filmed over the course of two years, the documentary tells a story of faith, compassion, and the everyday lives of people living on the margins of society.

Before turning to documentary filmmaking, Ákos spent many years working in communications and sports media, where storytelling and portraying real people have always been at the heart of his work. As a filmmaker, he is committed to telling authentic stories that bring people closer together and encourage meaningful conversations about important social issues.

For Ákos, The Street Pastor is more than a directorial debut—it is a personal mission to give a voice to people and stories that often remain unseen in everyday life.

"I believe the greatest strength of documentary filmmaking lies in honesty. I want to tell stories about real people that encourage us to see the world around us from a different perspective.

The Street Pastor is my first feature-length documentary. For two years, I followed the work of Reformed pastor Béla Turbucz because I felt that his mission raises important questions about faith, humanity, responsibility, and the possibility of a second chance.

I hope this film not only tells the story of an extraordinary life, but also encourages viewers to pause for a moment and look differently at the people they encounter every day."
